Unlike impermeable alternative surfaces such as tarmac and asphalt, the Hebden 401 allows rainwater to soak into the water table, preventing the surface water runoff to the drainage system that is often responsible for flooding. This permeability means the Hebden 401 can play an important role in sustainable urban drainage strategies, and allows the developer or homeowner to meet new planning regulations requiring permeable surfacing for new driveways.
The Hebden 401 is made from a blend of 100% recycled PP and HDPE plastic (an incredibly strong mix of plastic, meaning the pavers are able to support the weight of any road legal vehicle) and are made in the UK.
| Feature | Benefit |
| Made from 100% recycled polythene (UV stabilised HDPE) | This means that it's as durable as it is eco-friendly |
| Manufactured in the Britain from 100% British waste | This means very low carbon emissions from the transportation of raw materials. It also means British jobs. |
| High permeability | This means that the Hebden 401™ avoids rainwater run-off into drains and sewers, allowing it to return to the water table. This helps avoid the urban "heat island" effect and makes it perfect for SUDS strategies |
| Can be finished with grass or gravel | This makes the Hebden 401™ much more aesthetically pleasing than ugly tarmac or block paving |
| Great strength (over 250 tons per metre2) | This means that the Hebden 401™ can support all vehicle types |
| The Hebden 401 has been designed to accept the thermal expansion of the plastic without lifting at the joints | Without this feature on warm days the Hebden 401™ would lift at the joints allowing earth to slip underneath preventing it from going back level and killing the grass in the process. |
| Frost and high UV resistance | This means that the Hebden 401™ will last for many years |
| Great flexibility | This means that the Hebden 401™ can easily be laid on an undulating surface |
| Light weight | This means that it is easily transported, resulting in less CO2 emissions than for the conventional alternatives |
| Modular system | This means that the Hebden 401™ can quickly be laid at a rate of 75m2 per person per hour |
